Lottery money helps little patient from Arnstädt to get a therapy device

The Thuringian Department of the Interior endowed the organisation „Herzblatt“ with lottery money, in order to support the healing process of the patients in pediatric orthopedics of hospital Marienstift.

Lina focusses the little monitor in front of her. On a platform balances the Erfurter Puffbohne (special bean from district Erfurt). Suddenly it moves to the right, about to fall down. The ten-year old throws herself into it, pedals as evenly as she can and moves the bean back into the center of the platform.

„That’s fun“ says Lina. She is a patient in pediatric orthopedics of Marienstift. In November, she had a foot surgery; Romy even has both feet in a cast.

By now, the surgical wounds have healed to the point that intensive rehabilitation can start. The MOTOmed, a special therapy device used by the girls, is a perfect complementation of this rehabilitation therapy.

The play instinct of the little patients is made use of to reinstall their mobility. Cycling movements as well as movements of the arms are possible.

People who cannot pedal by themselves, can have their muscles loosened by motor support.

“We have made very good experiences with the MOTOmed“, says physio therapist Annerose Linse. When the device that was only lent was given back to the actual owner, the organization “Herzblatt” came into play.

Ten years ago “Herzblatt” was founded. Since then different projects have been supported in favor of children. One focus of their work are the children that are treated in Marienstift who sometimes spent many weeks in hospital.

It is important to be known to the public in order to have enough money for acquisitions. As a consequence, “Herzblatt” seizes every chance, presented itself to the state parliament – and received 1000 Euros of aid money.

Minister of the interior Georg Maier (SPD) shortly handed over the money for the MOTOmed purchase and even tried the device out. In December at the latest he will return to Marienstift, he promised. Together with SPD member of state parliament Eleonore Mühlbauer he intends to read Christmas tales to the children.
